Paste one line into your template
A single script tag before the closing body tag, in whatever file every page on your site already shares. There is no server component, no database and nothing to keep patched — the widget loads from our CDN and talks to our API.
The room is there on the next page load
A site-wide room exists from the moment the site is created, so there is no empty-state to configure your way out of. You are its administrator because you signed up; anyone else who arrives is a visitor until you say otherwise.
Visitors read before they decide to join
Somebody who has never been to your site sees the room and the last of the conversation without signing in or being asked for anything. They pick a name at the point they want to say something, which is the only moment the question is worth asking.
Regulars arrive as themselves
If your site already has accounts, single sign-on hands the widget the name and picture you already hold, signed with your key. Nobody registers twice and the name beside a message is the one the rest of your site uses.
Questions
- Do visitors have to create an account to use the chat?
- No. They can read the room without signing in or being prompted, and join by typing a name — no email address, no confirmation step. If your site has its own accounts you can pass those in with single sign-on instead, so people arrive already identified.
- What happens when nobody is in the room?
- They see the last of the conversation rather than an empty box, which is the difference between a quiet room and a dead one. Flyzoo suits sites where visitors arrive at the same time — a radio station, a live show, an event — because that is when a room has people in it. If your traffic trickles in one visitor at a time, a chat room is the wrong tool and we would rather say so here than after you have paid.
- Is the chat on my domain or yours?
- The conversation happens on your pages, inside your layout, under your domain. The widget is served from our CDN and the messages are stored on our servers, so there is nothing for you to host, but a visitor is never sent anywhere to take part.
- Will it slow my site down?
- The script loads asynchronously after your page, so it cannot block rendering. Messages arrive over a single live connection rather than by repeatedly asking the server whether anything has changed.
- Can I have more than one room?
- Yes, and how many depends on the plan — from one on the entry plan to unlimited higher up. Rooms can be created and removed from the dashboard or the REST API, which is how sites that run an event give each session its own and clear them afterwards.
