A chat for your online radio station

Radio is already live. The chat is where the audience finds out they are not listening alone — requests, shout-outs, and the presenter reading them out.

Beside the player

Embed the room in the page next to the stream, sized to your layout, rather than a dock in the corner.

A room per show

Give each show its own room, so the breakfast audience and the late-night one are not in each other’s way.

Moderation for a live show

The word filter and link rules run before a message appears, which matters when the presenter is reading the chat out loud.

Installing it

One line before the closing body tag

Anywhere that ends up on every page, immediately before the closing </body> tag — a shared template, a layout partial, or whatever your platform calls its footer code box.

Questions

Does the chat empty when the show ends?
No, and that is the difference from the chat built into a streaming platform. The room is on your page, so the conversation and the regulars are still there between shows — which is where a station's community actually forms, rather than during any single broadcast.
Can I have a room per show?
Yes, and most stations of any size do: the breakfast audience and the late-night one are not in each other's way, and each presenter gets a room that is recognisably theirs. Rooms are created from the dashboard or the REST API.
Can the chat sit next to the player instead of in the corner?
Yes. An embedded room goes into your layout at whatever size your design calls for, which is what most stations want — the player and the chat beside each other, rather than a dock floating over the page.
What about moderation when the presenter is reading the chat out?
The word filter and link rules run on the server before a message appears to anybody, which matters a great deal when a message can go from a listener's keyboard to being read aloud on air.
How many listeners can be in the room?
It depends on the plan, and plans are priced on how many people are in the chat at once rather than on how many messages they send — so a big night costs the same as a quiet one.
