Nothing to run

Chat is an awkward thing to self-host: it is a long-lived connection per visitor, and it fails visibly. We run it, and you add a script tag.

One script tag

No install, no database, no cron job, and nothing on your server to keep patched.

It scales at the busy moment

The evening your community is busiest is the one where a self-hosted chat falls over. Capacity is our problem.

Upgrades happen without you

New features arrive on your site without a deployment on your side.

How it works

What you run, and what we run

  1. You run a script tag

That is the whole of your infrastructure. No application server, no database, no message broker, no certificate to renew, and nothing that needs patching the week a vulnerability is announced.

  2. We run the rest

The API, the live connection, the storage, the CDN the widget is served from, and the upgrades. A new version reaches your site because we deployed it, not because you scheduled a maintenance window.

  3. Your data has somewhere it lives

Messages and members are stored in a managed database with backups and a replica, rather than on a single machine somebody has to remember to image.

  4. It has been running since 2013

The same script tag installed a decade ago still works. That is the actual test of a hosted product: whether the thing you put on your site keeps working while you are not thinking about it.

Questions

Can I self-host it?
No. Flyzoo is hosted only, and the honest reason is that a self-hosted version would be a second product to build, secure and support — and the version customers actually run would be whatever they last updated, which is usually years behind.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
The widget stops loading when a subscription expires, and the data is retained rather than deleted at the stroke of midnight, so a lapsed subscription that is picked up again finds its rooms intact.
What if Flyzoo goes away?
A fair question to ask a hosted product, and the answer is the REST API: room and conversation history is readable on the plans that include it, so an archive of your own is something you can take at any point rather than request in a crisis.
Do I need to update anything?
No. The widget is versioned on our side and the script tag does not change, which is why installs from years ago are still current.
